My solo trip to the City of Lakes… @Udaipur

About Udaipur

Udaipur India …… Also known as the City of Lakes. Most famous tourist destinations in India as well as in Rajasthan. The city is on the southern side of Rajasthan with a glamorous view of the Aravalli Hills and Machla Magra hills. It is around 660 km from the National capital New Delhi. I visited Udaipur in August 2021 and it was quite an impressive experience. Udaipur is all about lakes, temples, huge forts, and palaces. People around the city are quite helpful and friendly. The most admiring thing about this city is its historic palaces and architecture, making it a major destination for tourists. Check out the pictures below and read more to find the best of Udaipur…!! 😊

Reaching Udaipur

Udaipur is a well-connected city to its neighboring states and cities. It’s easy to reach Udaipur via Bus, Car, Train and air.  If you plan to drive your car (NH) highway roads are in good condition. Having said that I mean highway (NH) roads are great but as soon as you enter the city specifically old Udaipur, lanes are very narrow and a car is not a good option. On the other hand, if you want to drive around the new Udaipur city, which is much more developed, a car is always a good option.

By Bus: All the major cities are connected by direct bus to the Udaipur Bus stand. If you are traveling from Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Agra, Jodhpur, Surat. etc. In case you plan to travel from Delhi it will take around 12hrs to reach Udaipur. There are multiple buses you can take Deluxe AC, Volvo, or local bus. Bus fare will depend on the type of bus you choose. Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation buses is a website where you can book your journey via government bus. Additionally, private bus service is also available which you can check on any travel website.

By Car: Road trips are always fun if you love driving. Driving towards Udaipur will always be fun. If it’s not very hot weather you can enjoy a spectacular road trip in your car. But as I mentioned earlier old Udaipur city is not for cars. Please decide where you want to stay in historic old Udaipur or the city in advance. If you book a hotel in the city you will easily get car parking within the hotel itself whereas in the old city of Udaipur, traffic jams are normal and it’s chaotic. It’s hard to get a parking spot near famous attractions as it gets crowded. Most of the hotels in old Udaipur will not have parking.

By Air: The easiest and fastest way to reach Udaipur is by Air. If you book tickets well in time it won’t be expensive. And the spectacular ariel view of Udaipur that you can enjoy is WOW, I will post a take-off clip at the end. From New Delhi IGI airport it takes around 1Hr 15min to reach Udaipur. I recommend you to take direct flights to Udaipur without any halt if you stop at Jaipur Airport by any chance it’s damn boring. It’s easy to get an OLA Cab from the airport to the city.

By Train: If you want to plan your journey via train then everything you need is available @ This website. IRCTC will help you to check the scheduled trains and the duration of travel. There are multiple trains it’s very comfortable to take an overnight train and reach Udaipur in the morning. Both the train station and bus station are quite close you can easily get a taxi or auto from here.

Best time to visit Udaipur

I would say Udaipur is beautiful at any time of the year. But significantly there are Summers, Winters & Monsoon seasons. You can decide based on your personal choice which season you want to pick. There are a few things to keep in mind before planning your Udaipur itinerary. This info will help you in deciding when you want to plan your trip.

Summer: Usually from the Mid of March to the End of June it will be the summer season. And it will be really hot 🥵 . The temperature rises to 45 degrees Celsius or even higher. The temperature during these months will vary from 36 deg to 45 deg approx. With the harsh sun, you can feel your skin burning. I don’t prefer to travel to Udaipur in this season as in most of the historic places you would want to walk around and enjoy the beautiful architecture and its heritage but in summer this feels tiring.

Nevertheless, if you go in summer you can enjoy long days. You can avoid going out in the afternoon whereas you enjoy the colorful city in the morning and evening. Strolling around the Lake in a cool breeze with a beautiful sunset is always one appreciates.

Winter: For Udaipur, winters are usually from November to February. It’s not very chilled and cold but mild weather. This is the time of year you can easily walk around in the sun🌞. Max temperature can be approx 23deg Celsius and minimum around 10deg to 12deg. It’s the best time to view the lakes and the city.

Monsoon: Monsoon seasons can also be considered to visit Udaipur. The temperature will not be scorching high so it’s easier to move around. Monsoon or rainy season, lasting from July to September. When it rains everything looks vibrant and freshly washed. Monsoon Tip:  Always carry your umbrella.✌️

Stay in Udaipur

Udaipur has a wide range of hospitality in terms of tourism and hotels. You can experience a grand luxury five-star hotel/resort and can also experience the joy of staying in a small hostel near the lake. That all depends on your budget and how you wish to experience your trip.

To experience the best of Udaipur it’s always good to stay in old Udaipur. Even if it has small narrow lanes it’s the most beautiful part of the city. Getting up in the morning to Lake Pichola view from your window is magnificent in any season. There are so many small cafes in the old town where you can try different food and desserts. I stayed at two different places one was ‘Jaiwana Haveli’ and the second was ‘Tree of Life Resort’. Both places are extremely different and have different experience. Adding details and pictures below.

1. Jaiwana Haveli: This is placed on the bank of Pichola Lake in the old City of Udaipur. Lal ghat is a famously known area where this hotel is situated.
You can visit their website using this link. Rooms are comfortable and easy to stay in. This place is very close to the main tourist attractions. The most famous City Palace Udaipur is within walking distance. The place is quite centrally located you can get auto-rickshaws from this place but the car is a bit inconvenient due to the narrow roads. The best part of this resort is its rooftop… Magnificent unobstructed view of Lake Pichola. OMG, it’s breathtaking.

  • Tree of Life, Udaipur

2. Tree Of Life Resorts: This is a chain of resorts and hotels. After staying in the city for more than 4 days I wanted to experience the other side of the city. This is a place if you wanna have some ‘ME TIME’. Far from the city amidst green hills and beautiful views. This resort is a break from your monotonous life. I spent here 2 nights and it was an amazing stay, Food was good and so was their staff.

3. Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel: I just had my dinner at this place and didn’t get the chance to stay here, But this is out of a box place. So beautiful and calm that it’s just WoW. You can enjoy your meal, on the small balconies of a restaurant with a view of the beautiful sky and stars. The food was ok. But the place is awesome. Nicely decorated and very lively. checkout the pictures below.
